Calm meditation

What is meditation?

Meditation is a form of mind training. It can lead to profound improvements in your ability to enjoy life. Meditation has many scientifically proven benefits. It can:

  • Reduce stress
  • Control anxiety
  • Promote emotional health
  • Lengthen attention span
  • Improve sleep
  • Increase productivity

Before learning to meditate, I spent most of my life distracted. And much of it worrying compulsively (as you do, probably). Around 80% of our thoughts are negative and 90% are repetitive. I didn’t realise it at the time, but learning to meditate was the moment I started to gain a handle on my unruly thoughts.

Learning to meditate has made me less stressed, more focused, and ultimately, happier. As I talk about here, in a podcast. It’s the most important thing I’ve ever done in my life. I want to share these incredible benefits with you. And to show you that nothing will benefit your mental wellbeing and career goals more than meditation will

I’m an accredited teacher with the British School of Meditation (BSoM), passing with Distinction. I’ve personally meditated for several thousand hours, and have attended a number of silent meditation retreats all over the world. I've delivered hundreds of meditation sessions to a variety of businesses and individuals, including in the UK Houses of Parliament. My guided meditations have had over a million listens online on various platforms. I’m also the chosen meditation expert for online male mental health platform Mojo. When it comes to meditation, I know my stuff.

Corporate meditation testimonials

Mike's meditation sessions are well structured and he clearly explained the format at the beginning. Mike has such a steady, calming voice which instantly makes you feel at ease. We felt more relaxed and grounded by the end of the session and ready to start the day from a good place.

Excellent course and teaching - a great way to relax while also learning. Our Introduction to Meditation course has been informative, while also providing us with time to put our new techniques into practice, in a safe and supportive environment. Highly recommend.

Mike was a fantastic teacher. I was sceptical about meditation at first, given its ‘spiritual’ reputation. But with Mike, he taught us how meditation was secular, practical, and scientific. I’ve noticed that I’m much more focused and productive at work since our sessions, and have continued meditating since.

I was lucky enough to attend two sessions with Mike on an Introduction to Meditation course. I was immediately put at ease by his warm, approachable style. At each stage of the practises he took us through, Mike was calming and centred and I felt safe. Each practice was explained as to its purpose and duration before we started. I really felt like I was in the room practising meditation, Zoom did not take away from the experience at all. Both the sessions I attended were a real high point in my week, the techniques Mike showed us were achievable and memorable and I have started to practise daily.

It’s amazing how such a seemingly small and simple change to my morning routine has transformed the rest of my day. I’m far clearer headed and more focused…and come to think of it, happier. I’d never done meditation before but some of the people in my group had. That didn’t matter. The course is so well run that people of all levels can benefit and practice together. It was great for team building. Thanks so much Mike!

Mike's morning meditation sessions have been such an amazing way to start our day as a team. They are not only deeply relaxing, but Mike is also a very inspiring and informative teacher - demonstrating how meditation can dramatically benefit all aspects of your life, and also talks about his own journey of practice and how he integrates it into everyday life. Being from a corporate working background, he is incredibly relatable for people who also live fast-paced city lives, and emphasizes how even five minutes of practice a day can have a profound impact on one's mental and physical health. Would highly recommend Mike for anyone who has never tried meditation or for people who have been practising for years.

Mike was a fantastic teacher. My team and I really benefitted, feeling less stressed after each session. Working for a start-up is stressful at the best of times, and so his lessons were a welcome relief! Not only this, but they helped me to remain calm afterwards, which definitely benefitted the quality of my work and my enjoyment of it.

I had already meditated for a few years before the course, but still found it really useful. Mike gave us some great tips to improve wellbeing at home and in the workplace. His corporate background shone through, and made his teachings very relevant to working in a corporate setting. I have massively benefitted. Thanks!

Mike’s classes were really informative. While I had meditated for a few years before the course, I’d never learnt about why meditation can be so good for you. By looking at the various scientific and proven benefits of meditation to emotional and mental wellbeing, I’ve been persuaded to practice even more regularly after the five-week Introduction to Meditation course came to an end.

Mike has been leading our community group sessions for 10 weeks and has made the process enjoyable, accessible, and relevant to a group not normally engaged in any form of meditation activity. He has a common sense and practical approach and has introduced us to a variety of mindfulness techniques as he appreciates the fact that there is no ‘one size fits all’ method. We have no hesitation in recommending him.

We have great feedback about Mike's biweekly classes with us! The most recent session was a lovely class focused on finding pleasure in breathing and meditation to boost longer-term enjoyment of the practice. We even had a member of our South African team dial in and he loved it.

  • The guy who does the meditations is amazing. Mike Richard's voice is awesome. I love him.

  • I’m a meditator and I’m on day 3 of the meditation course. I’m realising that what’s in my head is just a thought. I really enjoy the meditations. Mike Richards has the perfect voice.

Mike was exceptionally professional. He separates fact from fiction, oozes calmness, and even in a group, coached us as individuals. I’m more attentive, creative, and productive. I’m significantly less stressed. My colleagues are quietly asking what the secret is. Thank you!

Working for a law firm, time is often short in supply and work can be stressful. Mike’s classes allowed me to reduce my stress levels and improve my focus at work. I found that I was more productive after meditation sessions, which was an added bonus. Thanks Mike.

I’d never meditated before, and loved it. Mike was such a clear presenter. It was obvious he had experience working in the corporate world himself, which made his lessons easier to understand and implement in everyday working life. I’m less stressed and more productive as a result. Thank you!

One-to-one meditation testimonials

I wanted to try meditation after realising I was suffering seriously with chronic stress. The stress was impacting all areas of my life, from mood and productivity and even my sex-life. Mediation offers a great way to manage stress in a way one might not have tried before. Mike’s five-week course really helped me to build on my interest and give me some reliable techniques to start developing the ability to practice independently.

As a nurse, I often face lots of stressful situations, as well as long hours at work. Mike’s classes helped me to unwind and to relax. On top of this, he taught me skills that I’ll be able to use for the rest of my life. I would highly recommend him as a meditation teacher!

Mike is an excellent meditation teacher. I liked how simple and practical his teaching were. I also liked how his students get recorded guided meditations and handouts, which helped me practice in between our sessions. I feel less stressed, calmer, and more focused. Thanks very much Mike!

Mike was an amazing teacher. I’d not really done much meditation before apart from using Headspace, but after a few sessions felt I’d got to grips with the basic meditation techniques and lots of the theory behind it. I mostly liked how clear and practical he made it all. I’ve managed to take the benefits into my everyday life, and definitely feel less stressed than I did before I started practising.

Having known Mike for many years, it’s hard to overstate just how much of a positive impact meditation has had on his view on life. He was always a wonderful man, but now he really does operate at a whole other level. As a friend it’s wonderful to see him now sharing this gift with others. If you’re curious about the impact of what a consistent practice can have on your life, you can’t go wrong by working with Mike.

I’d been meditating for a few years before I had lessons with Mike, using the Calm app. My meditation had gone a bit stale, but Mike gave me some pointers and lessons which reinvigorated my love for practising. I’ve fallen back in love with meditation again, and this is in no small part due to what I learned meditating with Mike.

I liked how clear and scientific Mike was. He makes meditation a form of mind training, and presented it in a way that made it accessible to me. Having the added bonus of handouts and pre-recorded meditations was great, as they allowed me to continue practising in between or sessions.

Mike took my meditation practice from beginner to advanced by giving me personalised feedback that meditation apps just can’t offer.

I’d been using Headspace for year or two, but wanted to take my practice to the next level as using the app was starting to get a bit stale. Having a teacher who I could ask questions to made all the difference. There is no substitute for one-to-one instruction, and my progress has increased significantly since our lessons. I’m more present on a day-to-day basis. Thanks!
